The Shrine of Saint Anthony

12290 Folly Quarter Rd.

Ellicott City, MD 21042

Wind your way through the forest trail system on the grounds of the St. Anthony Shrine in rural Ellicott City. The quiet, sacred atmosphere is perfect for a private japa walk - you might even bump into a praying monk! shrineofstanthony.org/explore-our-grounds

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park

10790 Macarthur Blvd

Potomac, MD 20854

Park at the address listed above (instead of the main gate) to get in free and miss the crowds. When entering the park, take a right and walk to the covered bridge, cross it, and loop back to the parking lot for a perfect 8 round japa walk.

Assateague Island National Seashore

7307 Stephen Decatur Highway,

Berlin, MD 21811

Willing to drive a bit further? Spend a weekend at Assateague Island and chant your japa on the beach, watching the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean while the wild horses walk by. If you’re up for camping, we recommend the Assateague State Park, but it closes for the season at the end of October, so you better hurry!

Harpers Ferry National Park

Potomac St &, Shenandoah St

Harpers Ferry, WV 25425

There is something special about the spot where two rivers come together in the heart of Harpers Ferry. For a quiet japa walk, cross the bridge and chant along the Potomac River on the Appalachian Trail while through-hikers pass you by. Parking can be a bit tricky, but you can usually find a spot at the train station off-season.

Meadowside Nature Center

5100 Meadowside Lane

Rockville, Maryland 20855

Take your time enjoying the flora and fauna as you wander through the eight miles of trails at Meadowside Nature Center. We especially recommend the Wildflower Loop near the Study Pond. Looking for a family-friendly day out? This nature center also has tons of fun activities for little ones!
